Celebrating Home

Express Appreciation for life on Earth

Celebrating Home is a SwiftUI app I've built myself that offers an art experience designed to promote appreciation for life on Earth.

  • April 22, 2023 - Present

  • Apple iOS, iPadOS, visionOS

  • Xcode, SwiftUI, ARKit, RealityKit, Figma, Procreate, Sketch App

  • Celebrating Home does not collect any personal information from its users.

Celebrating Home has three core features:

  • 1. Artworks: Browse artworks, view in AR, add to home screen as widgets, view in StandBy.

  • 2. Creator: Unleash your creativity with templates, create images, share your doodle.

  • 3. Stickers: Peel & paste stickers in Messages, add as effects during a FaceTime call.

Artworks

Browse

With Celebrating Home, you can browse through collections of nature-themed digital artworks that are #MadeOniPad by me and gain insight into what inspired me to create them.

View in AR

On iPhone and iPad, you can view artworks in your space using augmented reality (AR) — bringing them to life, offering an escape into landscapes, and creating an immersive experience.

Portal

On Apple Vision Pro, you can view artworks at a life-like scale, and through a portal window. Portal window surrounds you with Spatial Audio, bringing you to the artwork's unique environment.

Widgets and Standby

You can add artworks to your iPhone, iPad home screen or Mac Desktop as widgets. You can also view artworks in StandBy when your iPhone is placed on its side while charging.

Create

Templates

Unleash your creativity by drawing on top of the templates in the Create tab. Create personalized images, save your doodle, share it with the world.

Fingers, Pencil, Hands

Draw with your fingers on iPhone, use the Apple Pencil on iPad, or use your hands to draw across the canvas when using Apple Vision Pro.

Stickers

Messages and FaceTime

Celebrating Home includes a variety of stickers designed to facilitate conversations about expressing gratitude for the planet. Peel & paste stickers on images or text bubbles in your Messages conversation or add stickers as effects during a FaceTime call.

System-wide

Your sticker drawer is in the emoji keyboard, so you can use Celebrating Home stickers anywhere you can access emoji. Use Markup to add stickers to photos, documents, screenshots, and more.

Icon Design

The icon features metallic and glass textures— inspired by the windows of a spaceship. The gradient colors behind the glass are inspired by the hues of Earth’s atmosphere. I hope this icon will invite viewers to open the app and explore Earth's beauty through its artistic experience. The design has been meticulously crafted for iPhone, iPad, and Vision Pro homescreens, as well as for its sticker app counterpart.

Reflections

  • Technical Learning

This project allowed me to refine my coding skills with Swift. For the longest time, I’ve been designing interfaces from a UI standpoint, but this was the first time I designed, developed, built and shipped a project completely on my own. I was able to leverage several APIs and frameworks within iOS, iPadOS, visionOS. I overcame several technical challenges by focusing on building the best native experience.

  • 0 to 1

This initiative highlights my ability to take full ownership of projects and bring ideas to fruition. I earned the opportunity to attend Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June 2024 at Apple Park in Cupertino. I consulted with Apple designers, engineers, experts to gain insight into new tools, frameworks, and technologies to help elevate my existing app experiences.
